Detailed Itinerary
D1 Paro Arrival
Welcome to Bhutan! The flight into Paro offers breathtaking Himalayan views. Transfer to your hotel and rest to acclimatize to 2,250m altitude. Evening stroll through Paro town.
D2 Paro — Tiger's Nest
The quintessential Bhutan experience: hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest), perched dramatically on a cliff 900m above the valley. The 4-5 hour round trip is challenging but rewarding. Afternoon visit to Drukgyel Dzong ruins.
D3 Paro to Thimphu
Short drive to Thimphu (1.5 hours). Visit Tashichho Dzong, the impressive fortress housing the King's throne room and the summer residence of the monastic body. Evening explore Norzin Lam, Thimphu's main street.
D4 Thimphu — Cultural Capital
Visit Buddha Dordenma (51m golden statue), National Memorial Chorten, the Textile Museum, and Simply Bhutan (living museum). Afternoon: School of Traditional Arts where young Bhutanese learn the 13 traditional crafts.
D5 Thimphu to Punakha
Drive over Dochula Pass (3,100m) — on clear days, see the full eastern Himalayan range. Visit the 108 Druk Wangyal chortens. Afternoon explore Punakha Dzong, Bhutan's most beautiful fortress.
D6 Punakha Valley
Morning hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten for stunning valley views. Visit Chimi Lhakhang (the fertility temple) via a short walk through rice paddies. Afternoon white water rafting on the Mo Chhu River (optional).
D7 Punakha to Paro
Return drive to Paro. Visit Kichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. Afternoon at a traditional farmhouse for a hot stone bath and home-cooked Bhutanese dinner.
