Asia is a photographer's dream — ancient temples in golden light, neon-drenched cityscapes, misty mountain peaks, and some of the most colorful cultures on Earth. But timing is everything. Here are 15 of Asia's most Instagram-worthy spots with exactly when to shoot them.

Sunrise Magic

Angkor Wat (Cambodia): Arrive by 5am, set up at the north reflection pool. The silhouette of lotus towers against a pink-orange sky is the shot. Best: Nov-Feb dry season. Bagan (Myanmar): Hot air balloons at dawn over 2,000 temples. Shoot from Shwesandaw Pagoda or a rooftop. Best: Oct-Mar. Taj Mahal (India): The classic bench shot with morning mist — arrive 6am, enter through East Gate. See our UNESCO guide.

Golden Hour

Fushimi Inari (Kyoto): Thousands of vermilion torii gates with dappled late-afternoon light. Go after 3pm, walk past the first section to avoid crowds. Zhangjiajie (China): Late afternoon sun through mist-wrapped pillars creates the Avatar effect. Tianzi Mountain at 4pm. Petronas Towers (KL): Blue hour (20 min after sunset) from KLCC Park. Bring a tripod for the reflection shot.

Night Photography

Shibuya Crossing (Tokyo): The world's busiest intersection from Starbucks (2nd floor) with a slow shutter. Best: weekday evenings when it's busy but manageable. Marina Bay (Singapore): Garden Rhapsody light show at 7:45pm + laser show. Tripod recommended for long exposures. Harbin Ice Festival (China): Glowing ice palaces at night — arrive Jan-Feb, dress for -20°C. For more spots, see Top 20 Places and Travel Guide.
